October construction update from the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy

The latest Monthly Construction Update from the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS), which uses the Builders Merchant Building Index (BMBI) as one of its sources, is now available.

This month’s update shows that construction output fell by 0.2% in August 2021, with the level of output now 1.5% below its pre-pandemic level in February 2020. New work remained flat this month at 0.0% while repair & maintenance fell marginally (-0.6%). Anecdotal evidence from businesses continues to suggest product shortages resulting from supply chain issues and price increases are the primary reasons for the decline.
