December construction update from the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy

The latest Monthly Construction Update from the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS), which uses the Builders Merchant Building Index (BMBI) as one of its sources, is now available.

The latest update shows that construction output fell by 1.8% in October 2021, the largest monthly decline since April 2020, when output fell by 41.7%. New work fell by 2.8% from September to October 2021, while repair and maintenance remained unchanged (0.0%).

In line with the monthly fall, construction output fell by 1.2% in the three months to October 2021, with repair and maintenance falling 1.5% and a fall in new work of 1.0%.
