The latest Monthly Construction Update from the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS), which uses the Builders Merchant Building Index (BMBI) as one of its sources, is now available.

The latest update shows that construction output increased by 2.0% in December 2021. This growth came solely from an increase in new work (3.5%) as repair and maintenance saw a decline of 0.7%.

The monthly growth means that the level of construction output in December 2021 was 0.3% above the February 2020 pre-coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic level; new work was 2.0% below the February 2020, and repair and maintenance was 4.5% above it.
