August construction update from the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy

The latest Monthly Construction Update from the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS), which uses the Builders Merchant Building Index (BMBI) as one of its sources, is now available.
The update shows that construction output fell by 1.3% in June 2021, and was slightly down (-0.3%) the February 2020, pre pandemic, level. The decline comprises a fall in new work (-2.1%) and a rise in repair and maintenance (3.1%).
Contrastingly, quarterly construction output grew by 3.3% in Quarter 2 (Apr-June) compared with Quarter 1, with both new work (3.9%) and repair and maintenance (2.3%) seeing increases.
